The planning committee for Bradford’s Memorial Day parade
announced Tuesday that Elmer DeLucia will serve as the parade
marshal for the event, to be held at 10 a.m. May 28 on Main
Street.
DeLucia was a World War II hero and a recipient of the Purple
Heart award, according to the committee, which consists of Debi
Bigley, Jim Belardia and Valerie Meacham.
This year’s edition of the parade will also feature a new
guest.
“For the first time, we have the 42nd Regiment Bucktail Unit,” a
Civil War re-enactment group, said Bigley.
Other groups slated to march include VFW Post #212, the VFW
Women’s Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 72 and the
American Legion Post #108 and their auxiliary. Company C 1st
Battalion 112th Infantry (SBCT) will provide a 21-gun salute at an
11 a.m. post-parade service in Veterans Square, and may also take
part in the actual parade.
The Rev. Timothy D. Brown of the Church of the Nazarene, 55 N.
Bennett St., will officiate the invocation and benediction for the
service.
The planning committee said the positions of guest speaker and
master of ceremonies are still up in the air.
They are also looking for additional participants for the Main
Street march.
“Those who want forms to participate should head to the Chamber
of Commerce,” Bigley said. The deadline is May 25.
Groups slated to march are advised to meet 9:30 a.m. the day of
the parade at Davis Street to line up.
“If any group, such as the Boy Scouts or Key Club, would like to
help line up the parade, that would be helpful,” Bigley said.
For veterans who have difficulty walking, vehicles will be
provided so they can participate in the parade.
The Memorial Day parade planning committee will meet at 7 p.m.
May 15 and 22 to continue finalizing their plans.
