An electrical problem caused the fire at a single-story house at
64 East Ave. early Friday morning, officials said.
Bradford City Fire Chief Bill McCormack said Monday the fire was
investigated by state police Fire Marshal Mick McCracken of the
Clearfield barracks, who determined the cause of the fire was
electrical.
McCracken was not immediately available for further information
Monday night.
The house is owned by city firefighter Paul J. Berg, who said
Monday the fire started when an interior wall “sunk a little,”
causing the electrical wiring to shift and create heat under the
house. The heat spread through the floor by way of a wire mesh
inside the dry wall or plaster and caused at least two interior
walls to burn, Berg said.
Berg added he expected tenants to start moving into the house
Saturday and the interior painting had just been finished
Friday.
Berg said Monday he believed the standing portions of the
structure would have to be demolished and the house would be
“totaled.”
No one was injured in the fire, which broke out at 1:15 a.m.
Friday. Two trucks and 12 firefighters were on scene until about
3:30 a.m. Crews responded when the fire rekindled at 7:45 a.m.
Friday.
The Bradford Township Volunteer Fire Department were on
stand-by.
