An Olean, N.Y., man is in McKean County Jail after allegedly stealing more than $1,200 in merchandise from Walmart in Foster Brook.
William B. Mangalsingh, 35, of Fulton Street, was arraigned late Monday night before District Judge William Todd on a charge of retail theft, a third-degree felony.
According to the criminal complaint, at 6:49 p.m. Monday, the Walmart loss prevention specialist contacted Foster Township police to report that employees were currently observing suspects committing retail theft.
Walmart employees stopped Mangalsingh and his wife, who were there with two children, before they left through the doors of the grocery side of the store.
The investigation revealed that Mangalsingh walked beyond the last point of sale without paying for $1,287.55 in merchandise, the complaint stated. Additionally, court records indicate that he was already not allowed to be on Walmart property and currently owes $13.68 in restitution for a previous case.
Mangalsingh is in jail in lieu of $20,000 bail, and he is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Feb. 28.
