A former Bradford man accused of hitting a woman with a truck had all charges against him bound to McKean County Court, including a new charge that was added after the case was filed.
Ryan S. Burkett, 40, who now lives in Corry, had a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Dominic Cercone.
Burkett faces an additional charge of aggravated assault-causes bodily injury with a deadly weapon, a felony. He is also charged with aggravated assault with extreme indifference, a first-degree felony; aggravated assault by vehicle and accidents involving death or injury, third-degree felonies; simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, second-degree felonies; and reckless driving, a summary.
According to the criminal complaint, on Dec. 15, a woman took a phone call about missing money, then went from the residence where she was staying to a nearby parking lot. Burkett allegedly pulled in, struck her with his truck, knocking her down, then got out of his truck and tried to physically assault her. She ran and hid from him.
Police said the victim was taken to Bradford Regional Medical Center and had a fractured wrist, several fractured ribs and multiple contusions and lacerations, the complaint stated.
Burkett is free, having posted $65,000 bail.
Also on Wednesday, Robert A. Williams, 22, of Bradford, had the following charges against him bound to McKean County Court at a preliminary hearing before District Judge Dominic Cercone: burglary, a first-degree felony; arson-intent to destroy unoccupied building and arson-recklessly placing building in danger, second-degree felonies; possession of explosive/incendiary material, criminal mischief and risking catastrophe, third-degree felonies; and recklessly endangering another person, a second-degree misdemeanor.
According to the criminal complaint, on Jan. 12, Williams, who was out riding his bicycle, entered a home at 112 Barbour St., lit on fire a piece of paper that was under the couch and left.
Williams later admitted to investigators that he started the fire, saying he just wanted to see fire and that “for some reason my soul lives on fire, I guess,” the complaint stated.
No one was hurt in the fire, but two people and several pets were displaced, and the home was destroyed.
Williams is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Rikki L. Curcio, 29, of Bradford, and Westley C. Hardy, 22, of Cyclone — codefendants in a trespassing case — had charges against them bound to McKean County Court at a hearing before District Judge Richard Luther.
A third codefendant, Kelcie R. Moffett, 18, of Bradford, had a hearing for her alleged role in the case postponed.
Hardy and Curcio each face an additional charge from when charges were first filed: criminal trespassing-enter structure, a third-degree felony.
Both are also charged with criminal conspiracy-criminal trespass-break into structure, a second-degree felony; possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use and possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors. Hardy is charged with possession of an instrument of crime, a first-degree misdemeanor, and Curcio and Hardy both face summary charges.
The criminal complaint alleges that on Feb. 13, Bradford Township Police found Hardy, Curcio and Moffett inside of a vacant home on High Street after responding to a report of a suspicious U-Haul box truck.
Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in the common areas of the home, and methamphetamine was also discovered in the search; a backpack belonging to Hardy contained lock-picking tools, too, the complaint stated.
Hardy and Curcio are in McKean County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Andrew J. Beck, 30, of Bradford, waived a preliminary hearing on the following charges: flight to avoid apprehension, a third-degree felony; and three counts of possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanors.
The criminal complaint states that on March 9, Bradford City Police learned that Beck was in an apartment on Kiwanis Court when the city fire department was called there due to a carbon monoxide detector sounding. Beck was wanted on warrants from state parole and the Johnsonburg Police Department.
Law enforcement officers were given permission to search the apartment and found Beck hiding in the kitchen with a curly blond wig covering his bald head, according to court records. He was also allegedly in possession of heroin, methamphetamine and Suboxone.
Beck is in McKean County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.
Sidney D. Beckwith, 60, of Duke Center, had all charges against him in a recent threat case withdrawn. Court records indicate the following charges were withdrawn: misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats and simple assault and a summary count of harassment.
A preliminary hearing set for Wednesday before District Judge Richard Luther was canceled.
